Group Puppy Obedience
This course is for puppies 6 months and under. The first six months of a puppy's life are crucial in their training. This is when we lay the foundation for how they will react to their environment and the people within it. The focus of the course is to teach your puppy basic commands, good habits, and complete socialization. The commands taught are: sit, down, stay, come and heel. Common puppy "issues" are also discussed in class, i.e. jumping, mouthing, crate training, potty training, etc. The method of training we will be using is positive reinforcement. Socialization is also a big focus of this course. The puppies will have the opportunity to socialize with other puppies as well as other people.
*** For those interested, we are now offering the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program. At the end of the puppy course, if the puppy and owner qualify, they will be given the S.T.A.R. Puppy test.
Upon passing the test, the puppy will receive the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Medal.
*** Older small/toy breed dogs may enroll in this course
Advanced Puppy Manners
This course is designed for puppies between 6 months and a year old, that have completed a puppy course, or have an equivalent training background. The focus of the course is to refine your puppy's basic commands, teach your puppy to pay attention around distractions, and to respond when the reward is not visible. Common "Teenage Issues" are also discussed in class, i.e. general defiance, lack of attention, being easily distracted, poor leash manners, etc. The method of training we will be using is positive reinforcement.
This course is meant to prepare puppies for the Canine Good Citizen Course.

Group Basic Obedience
This course designed for dogs six months or older that have had either no, or a limited amount of, previous training. This course is also a good place to start with a newly adopted dog.
The topics covered during this course are: sit, down, stay, come when called, loose lead walking, heeling, drop it, leave it, proper greetings with other dogs or people, proper manners (not jumping, mouthing, excessively barking). We also practice keeping the dogs attention around distractions (for example passing other dogs while on leash).
The method of training used in class is operant conditioning, with the focus being on positive reinforcement.
Students should bring their dogs on a regular (not retractable leash) and make sure they have plenty of treats for class.
